I Almost Died

Was hanging out before youth group tonight, and one of the kids wanted to go out and play catch w/the football. The weather had been pretty nasty, but looked like it was kind of clearing off, so I figured I didn't mind getting sprinkled on a little. We walked out, and I was no more than 15 feet from the building, when it took a direct lightning strike. Here comes the scary parts. I felt it in the tips of my toes, and in my chest. I thought I died. After a few minutes the tingling went away, though. (I didn't die) Even scarier, when the lightning struck, our steeple literally exploded. We found pieces of it all around the building. Just wanted to share.

what the heck! Do you guys live in some kind of thriller/adventure movie. Whose church gets struck by lightning? Not sure if that's the best marketing...

Wow. That's crazy.

Lightning struck really close to my house the other day and the thunder scared the crap out of me.

Glad you're ok!

Dang dude! That's not a good thing. Glad you made it through ok. Kind of a cool story to tell and I'm sure there has to be some awesome teaching point in that somewhere :)

In July our staff was having an impromptu meeting (we were planning the funeral of an 18 year old in our congregation that had a car accident) when lightening struck so close we thought it had hit us. Several screams were heard in the room. The lightening hit the oak tree behind the church, peeled the bark off of it and it the bark exploded - barely missing several cars.
